XP thinks printer is a USB device

I'm using XP home (SR2) that came installed on a HP Pavilion computer.
I installed the XP drivers for an HP 3820 deskjet printer assigned to
LPT1. The printer works fine.

If I turn the printer I get the message "Found new hardware HP deskjet
3820 series." Then it tells me that there is a missing file
hpzip307.dll. As I cancel out of all these I finally get an error
message (like a quote on the bottom right of the screen) telling me that
the hardware may not work. Still, the printer works fine. It's just so
annoying to see this every time I turn on the printer.

Any ideas what's wrong? The printer properties has it as a parallel
port printer.

Thanks in advance,
Alan

Uninstall all the printer stuff, then reinstall it using HPs setup software.
I've found that if you don't install HP printers using their methods, they
can do some quirky things.

You might also get better results if you connect with USB instead of
parallel, especially if you're in the habit of turning the printer on after
the computer is already running.

Do you happen to have it connected with both parallel and USB cables?
Use one or the other, not both. If not the case you may have a crummy
parallel cable. Either way, I'd have it connected using USB anyway, not
parallel.
