Well, I suppose this is not going to get answered? If you have an update, as
a major company "Microsoft" regaurding to sp2 "Service Pack 2", I think it
would be smart to asnwere most of the questions asked, for example, I'm
having the same problem with mine. In my Computer when i start it, it takes
about 30 mins on the "Starting Windows" then another 20 mins on the "Loading
files" and about 30 mins in "saving setting" at shutdown. I can't open
internet explorer , and when i do open it no website opens up. I'm having the
problem cuase I have an AMD which i was reading that it hasn't been
compatable or something? cuase many people are having trouble with it, I
really need a fix for this i'm having alot of trouble trying to uninstall
that sp2 and i did it in add and remove programs and it still doesn't work,
sp2 is still there, I AM BEGGINg for a fix someone help me, maybe alittle
explanation on how to remove this upgrade? i would really appreciate it,
someone out there help me? :)

To remone Service Pack2. go to
Start
Control Panel
Add and remove programs
Select Windows XP Service Pack 2 and click the Remove button.

With this said, it does not mean that removing SP2 will restore your
computer to its former (good) speed. Your computer is really crawling, isn't
it? Some additional details not provided in your post would have been
useful to help determine what ills your computer; details like like the
speed of your AMD processor (300 MHz and faster recommended), the amount of
RAM your computer has (minimum of 128MB recommended); how much hard space is
left on the partition Windows XP is running (let's assume it is the C:
drive, for convenience, right click the C: drive and select Properties; you
should then be able to read how much space is left); is your C: drive
shared? (If it is, turn file sharing off or, at least, so not share your C:
drive). Last, I will assume that your computer has an antivirus program in
working order.

Because of the slowdown and because you provide the clue that Internet
Explorer does not start and run as it should, I will guess (and it is a
guess) that your computer has been infected with some kind(s) of virus,
worms, spyware or all the above. This would explain the slowdown as well as
Internet Explorer's problem. If this is the case (*if* is the important word
here, F3rm1n, I have not seen your computer...), we simply have to get rid
of the problem(s), as an alternative to removing SP2 or even thinkong of
reinstalling everything from scratch after backing up your important
information on some other media (you should backup your important files now
anyway!).

Chances are you can get your computer in perfect working order again without
removing SP2 by doing the following procedures after you have backed-up your
information:

First, you may want to downlaoad Stinger from McAfee and run the program in
safe mode. Get stinger from here:
http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/
then click "Download Stinger.exe" in the page, save it on your C:
drive, then restart your computer in Safe mode. You get into safe mode
after a restart by pressing F8 immediately after the initial BIOS
configuration screens. Once in Safe mode, logon as Administrator and run
Stinger (you will find it on your C: drive). This will eliminate viruses in
the eventuality that your own antivirus
program has been disabled by some unfriendly event or program. When done,
restart in normal mode.

Check for the mydoom worm:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/mydoom.mspx
and click "Check my PC for infections"

Search and destroy spyware: download and run Spybot S&D:
http://www.download.com/3000-8022-10122137.html

Download and run the standalone version of CWSchredder
http://www.intermute.com/spysubtract/cwshredder_download.html
This will get rid a known annoyance that forces Internet Explorer to start
on a "About Blank" page.

Also, read some good advice to get rid of spyware and implement what you
can..
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/default.mspx

You should regain the intial speed you were used to in better days.

I hope this help you.
