XP SP2 Internet Connection Sharing trouble - Baffled

I'm having trouble with ICS on two-computer network, both running XP
SP2.

After running the Network Setup Wizard, and making additional manual
configurations:

The host is configured with:
IP Address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: <blank>
DNS Server: 203.xxx.xxx.xxx (as per ISP setup instructions)

The client is configured with:
IP Address: 192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS Server: 192.168.0.1

* ping 192.168.0.1 works OK.

* BUT ping, say the IP address of Google, 216.239.39.99 fails (Request
timed out).

* Checking for Winsock corruption using the netdiag tool finds no
corruption (the test passess successfully).

* File/print sharing works perfectly; can play games across the
network perfectly.

* Firewalls (Windows and ZoneAlarm) have been disabled (on the host).

However, the Internet cannot be accessed from the client computer.
I'm baffled, any suggestions?

Kind regards,

Ghostrider

Sounds like you need to fill in the DNS IP addresses your connected machine
uses, on this client. I do that as a matter of routine on all networks and
it never has a problem. Try that.

Have you enabled Internet Connection Sharing on the host computer's
Internet connection? If not, enable it. If so, disable it and then
enable it. After enabling ICS, don't manually change the host's LAN
connection properties in any way.

If that doesn't solve the problem, un-install ZoneAlarm -- it might be
interfering with ICS even though you've disabled its firewall
functions.

I've got a similar problem....with the network wizard setup it'
impossible to activate ICS. I left a thread about it 2 days ago, it'
called "ICS&SP2"

After running network setup wizard, I have this results:

the host says:
(lan card/properties/general/Tcpip-properties)
IP Address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: blank
DNS Server: blank

the client says:
(lan card/properties/general/tcpip-properties)
get ip address auto (sorry I don't know the exact translation i
english)

DNS Server: 192.168.0.1
If i use the "restore/recovery" (again I don't know how this i
translated) on the lan card options I get "can't get IP address".

I can use file and printer sharing, but not ICS. When I manuall
configure the host and the client the "internet gateway" icon appear
on the client and I can see some web pages. But still, most of the we
pages won't work(for example, microsoft web pages), I can't use outloo
express......... what's driving me crazy is that if I re-run networ
setup wizard the internet gateway will disappear once again from th
client. I'm using XP SP2 as server and XP SP1 as client (both ar
professional editions). Everything worked fine before I installed SP2
so this can't be some problem with hardware.
p.s. how can I deactivate and reactivate ICS without using networ
setup wizard?

That did the trick! Cheers!
