XP SP2 Eng will not install Fax Services

Hey all.

I have problem on two different computers. On is a regular desktop,
installed Windows XP Pro SP 2 and another one is LG laptop with Windows XP
SP2 Home. On both computers when I try to install Fax Services through the
Add/Remove in Control Panel it asks me for the disk. Fine, I give it the disk
and then it simply says cannot copy fxswzrd.dll. Fine, I just cancel it and
try with the next one - which doesn't work too. This way it goes until the
end and the Fax Services are not installed.

Is there any solution to this?

Thanks in advance.

Adding a little to Cari's comments, start here:

2. Why can't the XP Fax Installation Program find the Installation Files?

In this case, it found everything, but didn't install it correctly. Its
likely you have security data base corruption as documented here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/884018/EN-US/
You cannot add a Windows component in Windows XP

You can either:

1. Get the hotfix mentioned in the KB article and install it. Microsoft
usually waives any charges for support calls to get supported hotfixes
listed in Knowledge Base articles.

2. Try this procedure using the Esentutl.exe utility mentioned in the KB
article to recover from security database corruption:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&docname=c00270202
HP and Compaq Notebook PCs: Unable to Install Windows XP Fax Software

I can report that the Esentutl utility has corrected the problem in a number
of cases, HOWEVER, note that Microsoft does NOT recommend that you use the
utility and would prefer you try the hotfix.

Thanks a lot!

Wasn't so easy, had to play around a bit, but eventually - installed like a
charm. Thanks a lot.

....or so I thought. It looks like it installes the Fax Services, however, the
fax printer does not appear in the "Printers and Faxes" folder and the
Accessories > Communications > Fax is an empty folder. I looked at the
previous link you gave me, and now it does copy the files, but still doesn't
install the fax correctly....
