fax disappearing ... while installing it

hello to everyone!
i have a strange problem when trying to install Windows XP fax: the installation starts and proceeds without errors, meanwhile in the printers window the fax appears, then after 1-2 seconds it disappears, the installation goes on smoothly and ends without errors. but the fax is not installed!
the events log doesn't report any error as you can see below (the messages are in italian but they are sufficiently clear, i think)

this happens even if i stop the antivirus AVG, the firewall Sunbelt, the Windows defender and Spybot S&D. the system is Windows XP SP3.
