XP SP2 change default user profile & sysprep - media player not se

I am using the admin account to customise the standard desktop, then I use
control panel to copy the admin profile to the default user folder. I use XP
SP2 version of sysprep with mini setup & reseal options selected.
When I logon as a new user everthing looks good except Windows media player
icon is on the desktop, when media player is opened it displays the " welcome
to windows media player" message and I have to go through its wizard setting
the associations. I did configure this & delete the icon from the desktop
while logged in as the administrator before copying the profile & running
sysprep? Anyone know how to set Media player 9 for all users ?

Not sure if this solves your problem, but have a look at Q887816 that
describes "Changes in behavior of the SysPrep and RIPREP tools after you
install Windows XP Service Pack 2"

Make sure to apply the patch before sysprepping.

I was able to resolve it by applying Install hotfix 887816 & creating the
following registry keys before sysprepping:
HKLM\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\OemStartMenuData
"DoDesktopCleanup"
DWORD
Value =1
HKLM\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\OemStartMenuData
OemDesktopCleanupDisable
DWORD
Value =1

Just call MS support and they will e-mail it to you for free. Tell them you
need Hot fix...
