XP SP2 Backup help required

Please can somebody help me. I want to use the backup facility on XP but need
some advice on how to use it properly. Basically, i would like to backup
everything on my machine so in the event of the unthinkable, for example my
PC blows up, i can insert a cd/cds and restore my PC to its complete current
state. I would like to know which files i need to backup and how to save this
data onto a cd/cds.Please can somebody let me know how to use this feature
correctly and effectively. I would be most appreciated.
