XP setup freezes after 1st reboot Help!

This is a new install on a 10GB partition. I wiped the old installation and
was going to start fresh. The freeze occurs after the first reboot on the
Windows XP load screen. It freezes up completely. I have tried it again
with no success. Very confused here, never had this happen. And now I'm
stuck. I have alot of data on the other partitions that I'd prefer to not
lose. Pictures, documents, music etc. Can anybody help? Thanks in advance!

Here are the PC specs:
ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe (Not sure on the bios version off the top of my head)
P4 3.2ghz prescot
2 x 512mb 3200 GB Ram
ATI X800-XT 256mb ram
Western Digital 160 GB Hard Drive
Sound Blaster Z2 Audigy Sound Card

Your old installation might have been good.
sounds like a H/W problem.

run a RAM test and the mfg's HD diagnostic
