XP Reinstall

Hi. Can someone help me. I have a Sony Vaio, with 1 physical drive with 2
partitions. It was sent out for repair, and when returned, was partioned
incorrectly. The C drive was give only 20 percent of the drive, while D
contains the other 80 percent, and is 77 percent free space. There is no
available space on the C Drive. Question: Will reinstall using recovery disk
from Sony put the C drive back to default space, and will this cause me to
loose the OEM files containing the XP OS. Thanks.

Re-install won't change partition size. You can use PowerQuest Partition
Magic to resize partitions on the fly, without having to format/re-install.

sorry to disagree with bob, but if you use the sony restore/recovery discs
this will also restore to your partitions to the state they were in when
purchased

BootIt Next Generation ( http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/ ) is shareware,
not freeware, but it comes with a 30-day free trial, and you can do what
you want within that time.

Download, to its own folder, extract from the zip, run the bootitng to
make a boot floppy.

Boot the floppy, Cancel Install, entering maintenance, then click on
Partition work.

You will have to resize D
slide D to put the unpartitioned space between C and D
resize C

Your Sony Vaio was originally supplied with that configuration.. the
recovery media, if used to re-install the operating system, will revert
whatever changes you make in the meantime back to the original
configuration..

Programs can be installed to the other partition by selecting 'custom' when
installing.. MS Office applications are able to be set to save to any folder
on any partition.. look in Tools - Options for each app..

You are not obliged to save everything to C:.. when saving music, video
clips etc, point the 'save to' at which ever folder on D that you have
created for the purpose..
