Alright, lets see something positive from this broad
spectrum of knowlege....I'm running a newer sys (2mo old)
w/XP Pro SP1, did an update last night finishing the list
with DX9, No oddball non conforming hardware. I use ISS
BlackIce 3.5 w/ all updates, AVG w/ all updates,
broadband through a router. Prior to doing the
functionallity updates (MP9, cd burning enhancements,
etc.) I set up all security policies pretty steep, (Very
little availability to anything for anybody but me) This
morning I get up, go to my computer and notice the screen
saver had changed...Odd I thought, went to return to
desktop (move the mouse) and the thing reacted like an
old 90MHz box instead of the 3.06 it is. I forced a
shutdown, rebooted...still moving like a slug. Looked in
Sys. Config...nothing out of ordinary. Repeat
above...still same. Boot this time and password wouldn't
work, 2nd time...no go, 3rd.. Lockout. Reboot w enter key
and boots to backup Admin acct, seems to work fine untill
I look for all my files etc....NOTHING. Looked around
anyplace I thought they may be hiding, no dice, every bit
of my acct was gone (even the login icon). After about an
hour of looking (.log's etc.) to make sence of it, I
rebooted for some reason, and poof! heres my original
login (password worked fine), desktop as I left it, all
files in place, etc. It was like someone reached in
borrowed everything and then gave it back. I know it
sounds strange...I was here, has anyone ever seen or
heard of this happening and further more what log file
will give any details? I would like to know so as to
prevent it again.
