Admin Acct IS NOT in User Acct's

B

Please help. My Dell Inspiron went wacky. I lost my ADMIN user info (AND
all data under that name). Resulting in my not being able to load software
OR EVEN import my Outlook 2007 pst back up files, and manage my NAV 360
restore backups...
My question is, HOW CAN I GET MY ADMIN ACCT BACK? It shows up under my
doc's, but when I try to access I get "file is denied accesses"

Is my only option to format and re-install XP Pro? If so, do I use the
Re-install CD or the original CD?

PLEASE Help,

B Blake

Do you automatically log on?
If so - turn that off.

Reboot.

At the *welcome screen* (assuming this is the logon you get - has the word
"Welcome" on it and a list of users to choose from) press CTRL+ALT+DEL
twice - quickly. That should get rid of the 'welcome' screen and bring you
to the classic logon screen. Enter the username as "administrator" and the
password as either whatever you used to utilize *or* leave the password
field blank if you did not use the "Administrator" user.

Hopefully that will get you in.

Sorry - forgot to address "access denied"; although - if you get in - it
will be a moot point, won't it?

I am able to access admin acct in "safe mode" in XP Pro ONLY, not XP Home.
Now, is it possible to access admin in normal start-up using XP Pro? I DO
NOT want to keep XP Home. At this point it is the only OS holding all my
programs, etc. AND it will not allow me to install programs...any way to
help?

I printed the ownership KB link. I will try again, but I believe I tried
before and still was denied access. I will try the classic logon.

Where did Windows XP Home Edition come into this picture?
You made no mention of Windows XP Home Edition originally.
Why is it now on this computer?
When did it get there?
HOW did it get there?

Windows Home came installed. I was not able to remotely access "shared" info
with my brother's computer in Los Angeles so I installed XP Pro per his IT
guy.
I have been an admin before using Home. However, I might have deleted the
admin acct. if that is even possible.
Nonetheless, it does show up in "safe mode" using XP Pro. So...do I need to
format?

Is it possible to simply do a re-install of XP Pro w/out formatting? Or XP
Home re-install using the re-install CD that came w/the computer? My GOAL is
mainly to be an admin preferrably w/Pro on my Dell laptop. I do have an
older and slower HP laptop I can use w/XP Pro. Prefer to use Dell.

Also- I have an external hard drive that I have most everything saved.

Thank you,
B Blake

The built in administrator account can be renamed but cannot be deleted.
And this is true for both Pro and Home.

No. Access the account by entering CTRL-ALT-DEL.

Why not create another account which is a member of the administrators
group. That is what I did, and this new account does appear in the splash
screen.

I can't do that w/out using safe mode...The ONLY user in normal mode has
limited access and NO option to create an admin user.

....

Log in as the Administrator in Safe Mode and create a new user with
administrative access *while in safe mode* and then boot into normal mode
and log on as that new user with administrative access.

In XP Pro I do have admin access...however, I can't even get on IE. Likely
because I have to set everyting up, i.e. my DSL connection, etc.

** Can I use the re-install version of XP Home to help recoup my
administrator acct?

If not, I will likely just use my HP laptop.

Thanks,

B Blake
