XP Pro- Remote Assistance - Cannot Connect

Hello:

I've been asked to participate in remote assistance by a friend who needs
help with his pc.

Both computers participating are behind a firewall [router] We are on
highspeed, him cable, me dsl.

When he requests remote assistance in messenger:

actions -> ask for remote assistance

I accept the accept request and messenger tries to
connect us but can't. We get this message:

"Remote Assistance connection could not be established because the remote
host name could not be resolved. Please try again."

I suspect it has to do with the hardware firewall [router] but am not
certain.

I would appreciate your help.

BTW: Both computers use XP PRO, and both use routers with firewalls. I
have used remote assistance with family members who weren't behind
[hardware] firewalls and it worked as it should.

TIA!

Hi,

You need to setup port forwarding on the router for port 3389 on both
systems to the IP (likely 192.168.0.x) of the machine behind the router

Thanks "Rick" for your suggestion. I will try it as soon as I can.
