Remote assistance doesn't work

B

Hi There,

Not sure if this post should have been here or under messenger but no doubt
I will be told if I've posted wrongly!

I have tried and tried and nothing seems to work. I'm trying to setup
remote assistance to help my aging parents but I can't even get the two
machines at my own home to talk to each other!
Here is what happens:
I send a message via Messenger for help, it comes up on the other machine on
messenger and I accept. I then I get "remote assistance disconnected please
try again' I'm using messenger as this is easy for my parents to use and we
webcam etc on it all the time.
Both machines are identical and run on XP SP3.
So far I have tried the following:

1. Enabling Remote Assistance in Control Panel
2. Enable Remote Assistance in the Registry by setting the
AllowTSConnections value to 1 in the registry.
3. Services running in Auto
SSDP Discovery
Universal plug and play
Help & Support

4. Router
Turn SPI off

5. Firewall
Remote assistance checked
Remote assistance windows messenger checked
Enable TCP port 3389

Can anyone help me please?

Thanks
Buster

Stop trying to do it in that old way.

Download the free version of TeamViewer Host and install it on your parents
computer(s). Note the ID number it gives you and you set the password.

Download the full free version of TeamViewer and install it on your
computer(s) and use it to connect to their computers using the ID you noted
and password you set.

Done.

Second that. TeamViewer is extremely civilized.

Thanks for that and yes that worked great. I would have liked to have got
the messenger remote working as it's so much easier but we will get by on
this for sure.
Cheers

I am unsure how Remote Assistance is easier.

Once TeamViwer Host is installed - as long as the other computer is
connected to the internet (no matter how many NAT devices it is behind or
firewalls - excluding some tight security settings where only specific IPs
are allowed) you can get to the machine (the one with Host installed) as
long as you know the number (which does not change with Host) and password
(which hopefully you set.)
