I'm running XP Pro with the latest updates from the
Microsoft website and I am getting a pop-up error about
every 30 seconds that states:

16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem
C:\WINNT\System32\surte.exe
The NTVDM CPU has encoutered an illegal instruction

'Close' 'Ignore'

The system is just idling and this pop-up occurs and
stacks the pop-ups on top of each other. Only by
repeatedly clicking the 'Close' button can I eliminate
them.

The event viewer is no help. Similar information as on
the pop-up without indicating exactly which application
induced the failure.

This error occurs shortly after booting and manifests
itself whether I log on or not and whether or not I am
running any applications.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

PJ

Wes,

You hit the nail on the head. Thanks for your insight
and quick response. The trojan is being removed as I
type.

Regards,

PJ
