XP Patch KB823980 fails to install

I am unable to install the patch for the blaster worm (KB
823980). I had downloaded the following patch "WindowsXP-
KB823980-x86-ENU" from the Microsoft site. The following
error message appeared:

"Setup was unable to verify the integrity of the file
update.inf. Make sure the cryptographic service is
running on this machine."

I was unable to install it through the windows update
link also due to the same error message.

Please help.

I also get the same message. I've called support several
times and got the "...will have a technicion call you
inside of two days...". If either of you find a solution,
please post or forward it to me. TIA

I have downloaded this patch (different methods) but
Windows Update continues to list it as a necessary
download on my PC. There is a listed solution for this
problem and yours on the Knowledge Database - involving
deleting the Catroot2 folder in windows. Havent tried it
yet!
