XP none critical updates

Bob Burns

I can get all my critical updates OK but I am 13 non
criticals behind because the update page is unavailable
after slogging through selection, all I get for the last
two weeks of trying is "page unavailable' What the heck is
going on??

Trying to ask MS a simple question and get any sort of
help is just as unavailable.

I'm not sure posting here is any better, I see umpteen
questions unanswered and no search functions on any page!

Come on Bill get your A into G.

I will answer some of your questions, first of all it is not Microsoft, nor
Bill G's job to answer your questions inside a newsgroup, they are a form of
peer support.
Second of all, if you are trying to search newsgroups, as opposed to saying
there are "no search functions on any page", try asking if anyone knows of a
way to search newsgroups -- to which I would respond, "Sure, try
http://groups.google.com/groups?q=microsoft.public.windowsxp.general&ie=UTF-8&hl=en"
and that will pull up this newsgroup.

As for the reason you originally came here, can you actually get to the
webpage and then does it scan or when you type
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com does it right away say "page
unavailable"? Is that the actual message it gives you are does it give you
an actual number on the page -- is it 404, 500, 501, 503, etc?? Can you see
the outer frames of the page? If so, have you clicked the link that says
"Get help and support", that will take you to
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/ which has lots of
solutions to different problems.

If you have problems getting there, make sure you can ping
windowsupdate.microsoft.com.

Those should be some things to try to get you started, post back and let us
know how you are doing. Next time though, try to be a little more
considerate to those of us spending our days and nights of free time to help
you out so you don't have to pay for that support call to Microsoft.

Randy
