Hi,
There are a few computers which are running under XP Pro (SP2) and are
networked using a switch. This switch is also a wireless access point and
the Internet connection is provided by an ethernet router type ADSL modem.
The computers have their IP's configured manually in the range of 10.X.X.X
(subnet mask 255.0.0.0). Windows firewalls are off and ZoneAlarm is
installed on every computer. IP range from 10.0.0.3 to 10.0.0.250 is marked
as trusted zone and IP 10.0.0.2 (IP of the ADSL modem and default gateway of
the LAN to Internet) has been marked as Internet zone. All PC's have the
same workgroup name and there are no duplicate PC names. All PC's have their
C drives shared.
Every PC can ping the others successfully.
Now the problem:
Let's say there are two PC's No:1 and No:2. No:1 can ping No:2 and vice
versa. When I click on No:1 on "Show Workgroup Computers" I can see No:2 and
open C:, copy files etc.
When I click on No:2 on "Show Workgroup Computers" the window hangs and I
have to close it. But when I write \\"name of No:1"\c to the address bar and
press enter I can access the C: drive on No:1.
My question:
Why can I access C: on No:2 without problems whereas I cannot access C: on
No:1 using the usual clicks ( "Show Workgroup Computers" )?
I think, that there cannot be a hardware problem (such as cabling and
ethernet cards), there cannot be a driver problem (ethernet drivers), there
cannot be a firewall problem (shutting down Zone Alarm doesn't improve
things). So what???
Thank you very much.
