Networking W95 to XP

I’ve tried, unsuccessfully to set up a Network between my old PC, which
uses W95, and my new PC, which uses XP.

This is what I’ve done:

1. I installed a Kingston KNE30BT Network Card in my old PC and installed
W95 drivers via a Floppy (downloaded for me via the Internet).
2. I ran the the Network Set-up Wizard on my new PC
On the final screen, I clicked on “Just finish the wizard; I don’t need to
run the wizard on other computers”.

I have called my old PC BERYL on Workgroup MSHOME and my new PC PAUL on
Workgroup MSHOME.

When I click on My Network places, only my new PC appears. When I click on
View Workgroup Computers both BERYL and PAUL appear. When I click on BERYL
properties I get a message saying “The server Beryl could not be found on
the network”

I then did a Google on Network, W95, XP and found many newsgroup posts on
the subject. I followed the instructions given by Steve Winograd (MS-MVP)
on one of them to make sure I had set the old PC up properly.

On the old PC, Network now has the following on the Configuration screen;

Client for Microsoft Networks
Dial-up Adaptor
Dial-up Adaptor #2 (VPN Support)
Kingston EtherRx client PCI Ethernet Adaptor
Microsoft Virtual Private Networking Adaptor
NDISWAN Microsoft Virtual Private Networking Adaptor
TCP/IP Dial-up Adaptor
TCP/IP Dial-up Adaptor (VPN Support)
TCP/IP Kingston EtherRx client PCI Ethernet Adaptor
File and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks

File and Print sharing are both ticked

Access Control is Share-level access control

My new PC now tries to connect to the internet every few minutes. I
thought this was something to do with it trying to assign IP addresses,
but it makes no difference when I allow it to connect.

Can anyone help ?

I think you will have to enable the ipx protocal also...on win95 and winXP
I ran into this problem in the past if I can recall correctly....

Tell me if this solves your problem.
