Reinstall XP TCP/IP networking and file sharing

I have a couple computers where the registry was hacked and now TCP/IP
and File/Printer sharing doesn't show up in the Network settings. All
they have is "Client for Microsoft Networks".

The typical fix for resetting TCP/IP doesn't even begin to touch this.

Is there a set of instructions to completely reinstall networking on XP?

System Restore would be the quickest solution.

Not an option, sorry.

I've seen a couple articles where you delete two major trees, in safe
mode

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/Winsock
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/Winsock2

Then you edit MS_TCPIP.PrimaryInstall, changing a 0xA0 to 0x80 and then
you can "Install" the protocol, then you reboot and it should install.

Not sure if that will work, it's a crap shoot next time I'm there.

Hi Leythos,

Don't what you tried but give this a try. Locate the following file in
the windows\INF folder:

nettcpip.inf

Right-click file to select install.

Thanks - I will try it when I go back to that office.
