Network Connection will not Open

This small company is with three computers running Xp Pro Service Pack
2. They are on a workgroup network. The users log into the workgroup.
There were internet complaints. This is what I learned.

I started with one workstation launching Internet Explorer. IE kept
attempting to connect. IE never connected to the browser/internet. I
could ping the other two computers, the router, and so forth. I
attempted to open /setting/network connections. Nothing happened.
I opened Windows Explorer. Access to the files on the other two
computers, no problem. Thus proving the workgroup network is
functioning.

I went to the first computer that hosts the Advantage software
database.
I launched and attempted to connect using IE. The status remained
‘connecting’ and never connected. I did notice browser Mozilla.
Mozilla opened, and connected to the internet. I could access the
router, and did a release/renew. That did not help with IE.
Then I attempted on this second computer to open /setting/network
connections. I needed to inspect the configuration settings and so
forth. It failed to open.

The workgroup computers on a shared network using Xp pro service pack
2 I cannot access Internet Explorer to browse the internet, to update
Windows.
I cannot access Network Connections. I can launch and access the
Internet using Mozilla.

Let me know if there’s a solution. The workers tell me everything
‘used to work’. I don’t know how the OS became network compromised
with respect to Network connections and IE browsing and connectivity.

As an experiment I could remove Mozilla to see if there were a
conflict? But then I’d loose that one certain internet connection.

Let me know if there’s a solution. I am completely stuck.
Thanks
John Marshall

Hi John,

There is a certain Windows Hotfix, which of the number, I don't know,
that wiped out the ability of the operating system to reconnect the mapped
drives to itself on the reboot.

It was a Security Hotfix.

You must manually reconnect the Drives before accessing the Drives
again, even though, they appear in My Computer. The Drives are disconnected
always when restarting the computer.
