XP Media Centre Crash

I have just tried to start up my XP Media Centre computer and it failed to
start with the following messages;
'Winlogon.exe Unable to locate component'
This application failed to start because SHLWAPI.dll was not
found. Re-installing the application may fix this.

'Winlogon.exe - Unable to locate component'
This application has failed to start because SHLWAPI.dll was not
found. Re-installing the application may fix this.

Can anybody help to start windows without needing to do a
recovery from my oem recovery disk without losing all my data.

Did you tried to do a System Restore to an earlier date when things were
working okay?

Try this command:
sfc /scannow

Description of the Windows XP Recovery Console
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058
Backup your data before you use the RC!

Hi Nass,
Thanks for the advice but the problem I have is that I get
no response other than the messages. I can not even get Safe Mode loaded I
still get the same messages. Is there any way that I can get to run command
level?

You could try booting to the Recovery Console and copying the file from
the \WINDOWS\system32\dllcache folder to the \WINDOWS\system32 folder.
If that fails you will probably have to do an in-place upgrade, aka a
repair install.
