XP / JetDirect Problem... Thoughts?

Thanks in advance for any help here.

Here's the situation that I'm facing:

1) XP Pro machine SP2
2) HP LaserJet 4200 w/ JetDirect card.
3) HP LaserJet 4600C w/ JetDirect card
4) XP Pro machine accesses the printers using a tcp/ip port (HP
Standard)

I have a number of users who are able to print to these printer just
fine, myself included. One user, however, is experiencing some strange
things. When the user goes to print, say from MS PowerPoint, the
document spools to the queue and "evaporates" in just a second or two.
It's almost like the print queue is sending the entire job to the
printer, and expecting the printer to be able to consume the entire
job... which it does't. Kind of like expecting the printer to be able
to drink from a firehose. When this happens, the printer will print a
couple of pages and then stop printing the job... almost as if it was
able to take one big gulp from the firehose and says "No MORE!"

Anyhow... I've removed and rebuilt the printer connections a couple of
times. I'm just coming up with no answers for this one. Any thoughts?

Are there any failure events? The machines are configured to print to these
devices (no machine sharing the printers to the client).

Can the user print the Printer Test Page?

No failure events on the printer side. I'll have to look on the XP
machine side. The printer is directly connected from the jetdirect
card to a switch, and all machines are configured to directly print to
the printer... that is, no sharing of the printer.

Are there any failure events? The machines are configured to print to these
devices (no machine sharing the printers to the client).

Can the user print the Printer Test Page?

I should also mention that the user recently upgraded their Mcafee
software which has caused some problems not related to printing. I had
the user uninstall the Mcafee software and printing seems to be
functioning better now. He's not printed a large document yet... and
that's where we see the problem... but we've gotten 12 slides out of
ppt where before we were only getting 4...

Not really sure what to make of that... could be a coincidence.

Chuck

The virus checkers can cause timeouts when they process all incoming and
outgoing lan traffic.
Some have settings that can be changed, others do not.
