i was having problems upgrading from 98 to xp on my home computer. I finally managed to get it to work when i realised that the problem was the in-built sound card on my motherboard. I simply disabled the card in my BIOS and now everything works OK - Yay:

I realise how frustrating it is for people, when you cant things to work. So i thought i would just post this message in the vain hope that it might just help someone somewhere to get the bl**dy thing installed:

Good Luck....

Zymeck,

This again points out how important it is to do "upfront work" PRIOR to
trying any upgrade. MS supplies a free utility to check for upgrade
compatibility, which if run will tell the user what might need to be done to
ensure a good installation of WinXP.

You might look for updated (WinXP compatible) drivers for your built-in
sound card (go to mobo mfr's website) now that you have everything
stabilized.
