can't install XP updates after upgrading from win2k

I bought 15 licenses for XP to upgrade workstations from win2k to XP here at
work. The first one was no problem. I upgraded two more, but I can't
install the updates. I don't get an error message, just that the updates
failed. The upgrade goes without error, it's the subsequent security updates
that won't install.

The first windows update installs the authentication software. That update
installs. The next batch of updates (82 at last count) is when it fails.
It's got to be a problem with my licenses, doesn't it?

At first I thought it was a problem with the MS website, but that was weeks
ago, and it's obviously not the problem.

I can't upgrade anymore workstations until I figure out how to get the
updates to install. Any ideas?

I had success with this--about 25-30 times a few weeks back. Lots of
'updaters' found problems & many found re-registering these fixed the
problem. Look at the ng: "microsoft.public.windowsupdate" several weeks
back at the number of problems and some of the solutions--many of which were
solved by this--many by other means. However, this process hurts nothing
even if it does not fix your problem. My $ is that it will! sdlomi2

I re-registered the Windows update dll as suggested by the following
post from http://forums.vnunet.com/message.jspa?messageID=870658

Try re-registering the windows update components. This may help fix a
corrupt installer

1. Click on Start and Run,
2. Type "REGSVR32 WUAPI.DLL" (without quotation marks) and press
Enter.
3. Should get the message "DllRegisterServer in WUAPI.DLL succeeded"
Click OK.
4. Repeat above for each of the following:

REGSVR32 WUAUENG1.DLL
REGSVR32 ATL.DLL
REGSVR32 WUPS2.DLL
REGSVR32 WUCLTUI.DLL
REGSVR32 WUPS.DLL
REGSVR32 WUWEB.DLL
REGSVR32 WUAUENG.DLL

5. Reboot

Now try to install your updates.
