Updates fail after upgrading from win2k to xp

We have about a dozen workstations still running win2k. I purchased the
volume licensing (for Vista, which we can't use due to incompatibility
issues), so I'm upgrading to XP.

After the upgrade, the XP updates fail. The first set of updates install
okay, but the next set (after a reboot) all fail. 82 updates download and 82
updates fail.

I've tried running in safe mode, but they still fail. Any suggestions?
Thanks

The internet connection makes alot of diffrence,a dial-up with 82 updates
probably would fail, try selecting custom in update, select 20-30 at a time,
restart pc after each chunk.Even with a cable connection you'd be lucky to do
that many at once...

We have a T1 ...these are work computers (I'm a network administrator).
Even so, I already tried installing one at a time ... they fail together and
separately.

have you tried doing the updates across the net or on one or two nodes? do
you get a specific err msg?
also as a biz with 82 nodes and a t1 you went to xp? with microsoft support
ending soon? what kind of incompat issues did you get with vista? mostly
hardware?
you should have run the compatability wizzard on ea system.
sometimes you can get the updates on cd or dloadthem and then distrib from a
svr
firewall, antiv, etc, need all the info

I'm upgrading the computers one at a time as time allows. We don't have the
software to push updates to the desktop. After the update, I l click the
"update windows" icon to install the updates (then I set the updates to
install automatically). II've tried letting them install automatically and
they fail, as well. No error message, it just shows me that 82 updates were
downloaded and 82 updates failed.

We have one (major) software package that does not run on Vista. The next
version does, but we're not scheduled to upgrade to that version until late
next year.

Of the sixteen workstations that need upgrading, I have upgraded four. The
first two were fine and I had no problem installing the updates. The last
two are the ones causing the problems. They are all identical systems
running identical software. After the problems with first one that wouldn't
install the updates, I initially thought it might be a problem with MS's
website, but a few days later I had the same issued with the next computer,
so it's not their website.

We have no plans to move to Vista in the immediate future. I've never
callsed MS for support, so the fact that they will be ending support for XP
is a non-issue.

it is and it isnt, i'm microsft certified but dont like the monopoly bill
has, its just that with support end that means no updates, patches, etc, which
makes all your systems vunerable, k i get off the soap box. do any of the
systems ask for validation?(during update) did maybe someone use the same
install disk on 2 systems (or have you been there forever, or does it just
feel that way?) there is also something new i saw on an update recently was
installer ver 3.01, do you have it?
i have figured out this much
1)cant push software = no domain
2)can you copy and paste or screen cap your updates for me and post em here?
3)the sftware that vista wont run , does everyone in the co need to run it?
you could dual boot or there is the new virtual pc software so you can change
os on the fly
i'm a microsoft system builder, maybe i can get you a copy to try out with
your vista prob (planed obsolescence...i dont need or want vista, i'm happy
with xp,svr03.media cntr
keep me posted
