XP Home Repair Installation freezes.

RonK

I tried to do a Repair Installation after an XP Update caused the computer
not to boot. It would also fail in Safe Mode.

During the repair installation it freezes with 39 minutes remaining. I tried
many times from and it freezes at the same point just after the first
restart. No error messages at all. All cards have been removed except for
the pci-e video card.

The motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9 Ultra.

Any suggestions?
Thanks
Ron

Repair is really a waste of time, after repair all xp updates need to be
installed
as they are deleted during repair. If repair works, great,if not, youre
reinstalling
xp.About the same time as repair took. One needs to run file transfer wizard,
set as old computer, save youre settings, files, music, etc on a cd.Then instead
of repair youll reinstall, the wizard resets everything for the user, then
updates
are all thats left...

Depends on what version of XP you use to make the repair. You will need to
apply any updates issued after the XP CD you used to repair, but it is far
better than reinstalling your applications and then running FAST. FAST is a
great tool, but it is not better than a properly applied Repair Install.
Your assessment that a clean install using FAST is better than an
intelligently applied repair install is only viable if you have little to
none applications to reinstall. Plus the time spent creating the FAST file
and allocating space for the file also makes it suspect as why it would be a
better option.
I don't buy your advice once again.
Plus, who can tell what you are saying with such poor formatting of your
posts. How exactly do you manage to post so poorly. I tried to duplicate how
you post using the web format and I couldn't do it. You must do it on
purpose.
