XP Home Networking problems

I run an internet cafe. Our wireless configuration requires
authentication to use the network.

I have seen about 1000 or so laptops in the past year, recently I have
had a couple of Windows XP HOME system that I simply could not get on
our network. I believe this is an issue with XP or the systems had a
virus.

The symptom is that the TCP/IP stack appears to be working, dhcp has
retrieved an IP, DNS is setup, netmask and gateway are correct. DNS
name resolution works, ping works. All higher level functions like http
don't work tho. Browser behaves like the stack is not connected.

Anyone else seen this behavior? Got a solution?

Again- I have ONLY seen this on XP home edition. "Repairing" the
network connection has fixed this on a couple of the systems -- but
this last one it did not. I tried both a wireless and wired
configuration to eliminate the wireless driver. In both cases the
behavior was the same!

Let me know if you have a solution!

Thanks,

Geoff

I recommend Brinkster for web hosting!
