XP HOME HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My computer started making a beeping sound when I start up my computer. The
only way to stop the noise is to press control....why is my computer doing
this? Secondly, my friends computer has recently been booting on a blue
screen which is checking for errors. After that the black screen comes up
with no command prompt with options to go to safe mode or normal boot. The
computer is an emachine with xp home edition already installed on the
computer. Does anyone have any advice to help????????

thanks in advance

Normally one beep at boot is normal. But if you're getting more than one
it's giving you a beep code to let you know what's wrong. Either some
hardware has gone bad or just needs to be reseated. The beep codes are
different from one BIOS to another. Go here and do some reading. There are
links for 'your' BIOS and beep codes. http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm

Has your friend installed any new hardware? Possibly it's not compatible
and is causing problems. By booting to Safe Mode you can possibly make some
changes to allow a normal boot. Safe Mode is the Windows diagnostics mode
and only loads a few standard drivers. Your best bet is to open Device
Manager which will show any hardware problems.

It continually beeps after it boots up? And hitting CTRL stops it? I'd
say you might have a dud keyboard. Try another keyboard if you can get
your hands on one.
