XP Home Edition with SP2 to XP Pro, No SPs

I'm trying to upgrade my Desktop running XP Home Edition + SP2 to XP Pro. The
XP Pro CD is older and doesn't have SPs as part of the install. When running
XP Pro setup, it thinks Home Edition is a more recent version, and doesn't
present an Upgrade option. What's the best way to do this upgrade? Should I
just remove SP1 and SP2 and try it?

That's one option - although not a good one.
Better one - slipstream (integrate) SP2 into your Windows XP Professional
install, burn a NEW CD and use that to upgrade.
(Google for "Slipstream SP2")

Microsoft specifically says "Not to upgrade Home to Pro",you need to install
the xp pro cd,exit the info page, restart computer, then boot to xp pro cd (you
might need to adjust for this in the BIOS,boot device priority,or
similiar),once
at xp info page, select, install xp,new copy, delete the partition (xp home)
create
one, then let xp format the hd and do a clean installation of pro.The upgrade
is for older OS,doesnt include home.

Where does Microsoft state "Not to upgrade Home to Pro"?
I have heard this fiction before but never a cite.
Windows XP Home upgrades to Pro very nicely.

Uninstalling the Service Pack or Slipstreaming SP-2 with Windows XP Pro are
both good options as Shenan says.

Make a new Windows XP Pro CD with SP2 slipstreamed
and then perform the upgrade with the new CD.

Either one of the following utilities makes slipstreaming
(integrating) SP2 into Windows XP a breeze:
