Upgrade Home SP2 to XP Pro

I am trying to upgrade a copy of Home Edition with SP2
installed. The Pro upgrade I have is SP1 and the setup
says the version on the system is newer.

Is the solution as simple as unistalling SP2 on the Home
PC then upgrading to Pro?

Yes, you can not upgrade Home SP-2 to Pro SP-1.

You can create an SP2 slipstream CD with XP Pro CD. You will have to
download the SP2 file (266 MBs) from:

then follow the directions in this article:

or, as you have suggested, uninstall SP2, then install XP Pro, then upgrade
to SP2 again. Dependent on the speed of your connection, the first option
may be better as you will then be able to perform a 'Repair' install of XP
SP2, if needed, in the future.
