Upgrading WinXP Home to WinXP Pro

I ran the Upgrade Advisor on the HOME installation and before it does
anything it says "Setup cannot continue because the version of Windows on
your computer is newer than the version on the CD. Warning: If you decide to
delete the newer version of Windows that is currently installed on your
computer, the files and settings cannot be recovered."
Is this because HOME has SP2. The Win XP Pro CD I got is has SP2 already in
it. I have read the threads, but none have this specific problem. The HOME
installation is pretty up-to-date and need PRO to run software that will only
run on PRO.

The message you quoted is the one that crops up if the CD is trying to
install say SP1 over SP2 but you say they are both SP2 CDs - are you sure?
Could it be possible you installed SP3 on the Home system? (SP3 is out as
release candidate 1.)

If you can run winxp home you can run win xp pro
It would be unusual for software to require pro as the only real difference
is the ability to join a domain

Guys, thank you for your input. After reading some of the other threads, I
figured that the key thing was the SP2 and the CD I have is SP2. It went
well, however, what the other threads don't tell you is that:
1. Windows Media Player (I had v 11, and now I have v10)
2. IE - I had v7 now I have some weird v6 that acts goofy
3. Windows Update doesn't work at all and don't have a clue what to do about
it

So, having just upgraded the machine, I can of course gather that the setup
program for PRO uninstalled the Media Player and IE 7, but stomped on why IE
6 starts two browser windows when I click on a Microsoft provided shortcut
(such as Windows Catalog) or acts really weird and goes blank like it loses
focus; and Windows Update doesn't work - it goes to the site and then it
says - nothing was installed. The Windows Update folder under Program Files
is completely empty. The new PRO version was activated. This was a really
clean machine when it was HOME with a lot of software and it is this
programming tool that my daughter has to use that required the PRO upgrade.
Any input you can provide on how to fix the Windows Update problem, would be
great....I can't uninstall the upgrade anyhow.
