Upgrading WinXP Home SP2 to Proffesional

L

Luis

Hello, I have the following problem:
I recently purchased a laptop computer with WinXP Home
OEM already installed.
I have downloaded (Windows Update) and installed SP2 in
it.
Now I want to upgrade XP Home Edition to XP Professional
using my Win XP Pro CD (sp1a) (from a machine that now
has Linux in it), but the installer tells me that an
upgrade can't be done because the current installed
version is newer than the CD one.
What is the solution to this problem without having to do
a clean install?
Would uninstalling SP2 and trying to upgrade afterwords
work? Would maybe integrating SP2 into my SP1a CD somehow
work?

Thanks in advance

Unless SP2 is integrated into XP Pro, then one cannot
upgrade an existing XP Home w/SP2 installation using
a non-SP2 version of XP Pro. What you need to do is
create a SP2 "slipstreamed" version of XP Pro, then use
the new CD to upgrade over XP Home w/SP2.

You have two choices:

1. Uninstall SP2 from XP Home

or

2. Create a SP2 slipstreamed version of XP Pro (preferred)

Either one of the following utilities makes slipstreaming
(integrating) SP2 into Windows XP a breeze:
