The look of XP Proffesional

Hi I recently upgraded my home system to what is suppososed to be XP
proffesional. I use XP Pro at work and know what the screens look and act
like. My home XP looks like XP home. I used XP Proffesional upgrade with SP2.
I can not see anwhere on startup where it says XP pro.During theinstall the
screens talked about it being XP pro but I just am not convinced it is.

Did I do something wrong on install or is there some attribute that needs
changed to get the XP pro look that I am used to at the office. I like the
basic screens with out all the fluff that regular home edition XP had(s)

The splash screen that appears at startup does not display
the complete Windows XP version information

What you're seeing are the default settings for Windows XP,
Home or Pro.

For your peace of mind do the following:
Go to Start -> Run and enter winver in the Open box.
Does it say Windows XP Professional?

Your work computer is probably configured to use the Classic
themes and Start Menu. Take a look at this article for more
info on how to set this up on your home PC:

HOW TO: Use the Windows Classic Theme in Windows XP

Another feature that probably differs from your work computer
is how you log on and off.
Go to Control Panel and open User Accounts.
Click on "Change the way users log on or off".
In the next screen, uncheck "Use the Welcome Screen".
Hit the Apply Options button.

Here are some more articles that you may find helpful:

If you're looking for even more info go to Help and Support and
enter Classic in the Search box.

Good luck

IIRC, Service Pack 2 changed the startup-logo to one which is the same for
both versions. Therefore, nothing to worry about.

In any case, many firms set XP to use the "Classic Desktop" which looks more
like Windows 2000, whereas a home computer will probably be supplied with the
XP-style start-menu.

In fact, if you set the 'Classic' startmenu and desktop, and then stop the
Themes service, it makes for a substantial increase in responsiveness.

This is even more true on Vista!
