XP proffesional freezes

My PC freezes when I play 2D games. Games like Sims, Runaway: A Road Adventure, and all older 2D games. It doesnt freeze when I play 3D games. It freezes completly, no black screen, no blue screen, noting it just freezes the screen and sometimes a strange clicking noise can be heard from speakers. I scaned for viruses, i installed all updates. I am using XP proffesional and 2000 proffesional and I have same problem on both. If anyone has an idea how to stop this freezing thing, please tell.

have you got the latest driver updates for your video card from the
manufacturer (NOT windows update) . Do you have the latest DirectX updates?

Also, you could try altering some of the parameters on your video card so
its not working as hard.

Games are very dependent on having the latest video drivers and as suggested
by another reply, do not use the MS update for your hardware. Go to the
website for the game and then follow the steps needed to upgrade the
hardware and for the game specific updates.

Some older games for Win95/98 just won't run under Win2000 or XP. Some
others will run but may require some tinkering to do so. I believe The Sims
(like other EA games) has had problems with Win2000/XP. I don't know about
the other game you mention.

Check this site for the games you're having problems with:

There may be some helpful advice there for your games.

Oh, yeah, forgot to mention. All this games that lock up on my PC work just fine on sisters laptop that runs on XP too. So the problem is not in the XP by itself, but rather in somthing on my PC, like something set up inproperly or some program or driver causing conflicts.

Do you have a Sapphire videocard???
If you do, ask for a refund. I've tried 2 different Sapphire Radeon 9200
(128/256). The 128 has a horrible quality DAC, and the 256 wasn't able to
stay in a Direct3D game for over 2 minutes. This wasn't a driver problem,
but problably some conflict (hardware). Asus 9600SE is doing great. Sapphire
has good support, but make bad quality.

Anyway, contact your videocard maker and explain them the problem (send your
cards mft nr).

Other posibility is that's your sound card. Configure the game to go without
sound and see if it works.

Patrick
