Setting up comp for 9 yr old using Home. Wanted just her limited acct & then
the administrator. Cant seem to accomplish this. I created a user called
"system" during install (was told this would log me as admin) but it created
a user called "owner". I tried to del the owner acct from the administrator,
but apparantly Home doesnt allow u to del admin accts. If i am stuck w/ an
admin user acct, can i edit the reg so it doesnt appear on welcome screen? I
just want it to boot straight to her profile. Not sure why Home has different
policies than Pro.

Also, does Home support the ability for me to RDC to her comp from my Pro
comp? I see it has Remote Assistance, but i just want to RDC into hers to
make updates, etc.

You can not delete the Admin acct from windows. Login, go to the control
panel and and open users.
Create here a limited acct, to do this you must login under a admin acct,
then password protect all the accts, this way she will have a login for here
acct and you can make chages under the admin login.

I presume you are referring to Remote Desktop Connection, this is not a
feature that was available through home by default, what you can do is
install MSN messenger on both machines and use the remote invitation (help)
via messenger. While I normally do not like messenger, this is actually a
pretty cool feature that it provides. Under messenger you can take control
of her machine (or anyone elses) and they can watch while you fix or update
problems. I believe that it requires a high speed connection for it to be
effective, although I can not remember that.

sorry forgot, the regestry edit to hide or unhide a user acct in xp is the
following:

To display the Administrator (master: Admin/Sysadmin) account on the Windows
XP Welcome logon screen, fire up Regedit (or Regedt32) and go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList

Create (if not present) a new Value: right-click on an empty spot in the
right hand pane -> select New -> DWORD [REG_DWORD] Value -> name it
Administrator -> click OK -> double-click on it -> check the Decimal box ->
type 1 -> click OK.

Modify (if present) the "Administrator" DWORD [REG_DWORD] Value: highlight
it in the right hand pane -> select Modify -> check the Decimal box -> type 1
-> click OK.

Close the Registry Editor when done.
From now on, whenever you logon as Admin/Sysadmin [ONLY IF you have
administrator rights to the computer you're trying to boot into :)] you'll
see the Administrator account on the Welcome display.

Eric, thanks for the help.
The machine already has the Administrator account (by default) & then the
"Owner" user which has admin rights. I would just like to del that "Owner"
user & just have her user which is limited, & then the original Administrator
account. For whatever reason, no matter what i try, i can not delete the
Owner. If i change it to limited, then i get the del option. I will just
follow the reverse steps of the registry entry & remove it from appearing on
welcome screen. Thats really my end goal.

Yes Remote Desktop Conn was what i was referring to. I saw Home can request
assistance, but i was wanting to just proactively access her machine on my
own, w/out the help request. I use my XP machine to access other servers &
things, was wanting to just have method to remote connect into hers to make
sure patches & stuff updated.
