Help!!!

My XP has gone mental on me, and everything has collapsed around me!!
If you need to know...its a packard bell iextreme

It all started when i installed Wanadoo Broadband.... Internet Explore
starting closing suddenly and bringing up errors...hence I downloade
and installed the latest updates available...then the fun reall
started, first of all it installed all the updates and asked me t
eboot, so I did, and when i connected to the net, it downloaded th
same updates again and yet again i reinstalled and rebooted - thi
occurred about 5 times, and was becoming a bit annoying, anyhoo, I ha
McAfee Security Centre installed and it ran a scan on my drive when
botted for the 6th time, and it came up saying I had a virus and t
delete these files, which looked suspiciously like driver files (.dl
extensions), however the scan told me they were not used by any item
on the pc and that it was totally safe to remove them, this
did....then ran another scan...CLEAN!!! hooray i thought, but then th
trouble began.... the next day I rebooted, my scan ran as usual, n
problemas, but when I went to check my emails, my keyboard wasn
working - Strange as my mouse worked and that runs via the same US
etc.... anyhoo, i uninstalled and reinstalled the keyboard (plug an
play) and the thing still would not work, I decided to leave it an
just tackle it another day, however my system suddenly crashed for n
reason - showing me the lovely blue screen, so typical of windows, an
powered off. So i rebooted, but the blue screen appeared again, so
tried all the boot modes, with no success...back to faithful ol
recovery disk, although this was now asking me for the master cd whic
had never done before, so i scrabbled around, and no, it appears i wa
not provided with one, so on teh phone to packard bell who wanna charg
me over £100 to get this disk. So can I get windows to boot from th
'hidden' partition (if applicable) or is there any way I can get th
thing working again as I cant even get to command prompt withou
inserting the recovery disk, which locks access to areas of the drive
including CHKDSK !!!

can anyone help??
