Recently unsubscribed from AOL and so uninstalled software and then installed
software for Tiscali. Everything okay using IE. Then uninstalled McAfee
firewall and security centre in order to install Norton and since then things
not working quite right. Click on some things on Windows(eg 'Search' or
'Help') and nothing comes up. Also, can no longer access some things on IE
(eg email or some web pages)). Never had these probs up until now and no idea
why. Help!

keeping your windows install cd do the following
start – run – type: sf /scannow (press enter)
in about 15-30 minutes is going to finish, if files are corrupted it will
ask to insert cd install, otherwise reboot...

Lost -- I used to use norton and mcafee products, but they have become so
cumbersome that I had problems with certain websites, programs, etc. I have
since switched to Trend Micro and have been very happy with the results. If
this is for personal use, I'd switch to Trend Micro's internet security and
you will be much happier.

Also, make sure that after you uninstall programs like internet security
programs to restart, delete the actual program folder, and restart again.
Search for McAfee and delete any files with McAfee associated in the name.
If you are comfortable, you may want to delete the registry entries these
programs make as well.

And again -- in the future I would advise avoiding Norton and McAfee. They
may work OK, but there are better programs available.
