Windows XP XP freeze - Examining 38155 MB Disk 0 at Id...

Hi All,

You'll have to forgive the slightly vague details, i'm working on a friends computer and have very limited knowledge of the spec.

Description of the problem.
When booting the PC refuses to load xp - it just freezes on the loading page after reeling off a huge amount of script. I was assuming that this was due to a curruption in the operating system but when trying to reinstall XP the PC freezes and reads "Examining 38155 MB Disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on atagi". Has anyone got any idea what exactly the problem may be? Does the HD need replacing?

It could be the file system or the HD, but I am betting its probably the HD.

Use the Chkdsk utility via the recovery console to examine the disk and report back any errors.
