is the case, you can either perform a clean boot or restart Windows without
starting the program in question.

This article describes how to perform advanced clean-boot troubleshooting to
determine whether the problem in question is affiliated with the core

Ramesh - You need to know that I can switch users by logging one user off
and
then switching to the other user but I cannot switch users leaving
applications on in the other user account.

As you indicated, I cleared the event log on the Applications, shut down the
computer and navigated into the other user account (non-administrator). I
then tried to switch user over to the main account (administrator) and
failed. I got a similar error log:

No, Ramesh. I installed the hive cleanup and restarted and the user
switching mechanism doesn't yet work. I click on logoff and click on the
other user -- it pauses and then defaults back to the old user again. Any
thoughts??

This is what I got from userenv: Windows saved user KIMIKO\ty registry
while
an application or service was still using the registry during log off.
The
memory used by the user's registry has not been freed. The registry will
be
unloaded when it is no longer in use.

This is often caused by services running as a user account, try
configuring
the services to run in either the LocalService or NetworkService
account.
What do you think?

Ramesh,

I am afraid that I am losing hope with this. The bad block tells me little.
I started a clean boot and followed the instructions. The restart came up
with the Load Startup Items tab under General checked while the other two
boxes remained unchecked.

Thanks. I don't understand that error message "bad block." Thanks for your
