XP Client on W2k - SLOW!!!

We have a W2K Enterprise server supporting 25 work
stations that a gradually being changed from W95 to W2k.

Performing a 14000 record Find First, Edit, Next function
on the W95 machine takes 5 minutes versus 75 minutes for
XP. We can repeat same poor performance with a simple
file transfer.

I believe the problem is in the network setup. Why would
W95 perform well versus XP?

The XP Machines were setup with the software Wizards so
Networking selections were originally obtain IP and DNS
Automatically. We reconfigured to the server settings
with no improvement.

Any help would be appreciated.

Check the ipconfig/all from the client. Does everything point to your
server-IP?

Everything, right?
Put the nic of those XP's on anything but autosense.
Check the DNS-suffix on the client. Do you have option 015 in DHCP set?
