XP CD missing

Ok, I am MORE than frustrated!!

I have two computers, both with Windows XP Professional. My husband left
his work and had some issues with software with them and it appears that they
did not include his XP CD. Now, as we had the same version of XP on our home
computer, I did not think it would be too much of an issue, as I had his
product key on his computer......how wrong I was. I have now formated his
computer (laptop), and tried loading XP Pro using his Product key and my
CD....it accepted the product key no problem and I was able to do a few
critical updates, but no matter WHAT I do, I CANNOT update to service pack 2.
It "freezes" on verifying product key. What am I supposed to do? There is
no way I can get his original CD either, as they are a bunch of jerks and
told my husband the computer company still had it.......which I think is a
lie!!!

Successful help would be gladly appreciated :)

"His product key & youre xp cd" for installing xp....That doesnt work,or they
wont work together. The key only works for the cd it came with. Why not use
youre cd & youre product key,boot to xp cd,select install xp,new copy,delete
the partition, create one, then xp formats and reinstalls auto.

This is the website for downloading the full SP2....note this is a download
only..it does not install automatically.
https://www.microsoft.com/downloads...be-3b8e-4f30-8245-9e368d3cdb5a&displayLang=en

this website explains how to slipsrteam SP2 into XP......creating a bootable
installable version of XP PRO SP2
http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sp2_slipstream.asp

SO...first download SP2 and then try to install from the download file...exe
if it installs.........no problem you have accomplished what you wanted.
if it does not install go to the next step and create the slipstreamed XP
Pro SP2..............and do a new installation with the ceated CD.

If that does not work there are other problems............

Andrew, your answer, as usual is completely wrong and you provide no useful
info to the OP, when are you going to realize you don't have a clue?
