Hello all,

When I try to connect to my domain we will say test.local
from my xp machine I recieve the following error.

Note: This information is intended for a network
administrator. If you are not your network's
administrator, notify the administrator that you received
this information, which has been recorded in the file
C:\WINDOWS\debug\dcdiag.txt.

An error occurred when DNS was queried for the service
location (SRV) resource record used to locate a domain
controller for domain family.local.

The error was: "No connection could be made because the
target machine actively refused it."
(error code 0x0000274D WSAECONNREFUSED)

The query was for the SRV record for
_ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.family.local

Any help will be great, THanks a mill.

What DNS server is in the XP machine's properties that it's using? It should
ONLY use your internal DNS. Same thing actually applies to all machine,
including all your DCs. For Internet access, use a Forwarder.

These steps should help eliminate the usual cause of this error. Once you've
changed this around, try again.

Verify that you are pointing at the correct DNS server. Also the domain name you mention first is different than what the error states. Make sure you are
attempting to join the correct domain. You may also want to verify the primary DNS suffix on the client matches that of the AD domain you are trying to join.

Thank you,
