I ran DCPROMO to setup my DNS and Active Directory. For
the domain name, i used an unexisting .com (xyz.com).
What other confirguration after the DCPROMO do I need to
do to configure my server to have client connected to
it. I have an computer running xp with the preferred DNS
server to be set to my DNS controller. I can ping it,
but I can not set my XP machine to be in the domain of
xyz.com

The following is the error msg.

Note: This information is intended for a network
administrator. If you are not your network's
administrator, notify the administrator that you received
this information, which has been recorded in the file
C:\WINDOWS\debug\dcdiag.txt.

The following error occurred when DNS was queried for the
service location (SRV) resource record used to locate a
domain controller for domain ayaouch.com:

The error was: "DNS name does not exist."
(error code 0x0000232B RCODE_NAME_ERROR)

The query was for the SRV record for
_ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.ayaouch.com

Common causes of this error include the following:

- The DNS SRV record is not registered in DNS.

- One or more of the following zones do not include
delegation to its child zone:

ayaouch.com
com
.. (the root zone)

Check to make sure that the domain controller is configured to point to its
own IP address for DNS (and only its IP address) assuming the same machine
is the DNS. If it already is, make sure its records are properly registered
by checking for the the folders _MSDCS, _SITES, _TCP and _UDP under the
forward lookup zone in the DNS managment console. If those records don't
exists see if you're logging Netlogon errors in the system log. Chances are
that will give you some clues as to why this client can't find these
records.
