XP and WinME

I have connected a Windows ME machine to my XP domain and I can log on to
the domain successfully.

I can also access XP Pro. shared resources if I open the START...Rum dialog
and type: \\server.

I have 2 problems though:

1. Even though the ME box can access XP recourses via RUN, I can't see any
of the network via Network Neighborhood. I have run the Networking Wizard,
but to no avail.

2. The XP boxes don't see the ME machine at all.

Please remember, the ME box logs into the domain with no problem and, to
some extent, it can see the XP boxes.

Make sure that File and Printer Sharing is enabled on the ME box to
make it visible on the network.

What happens if you type "\\server" on an XP box. Can the XP box see
the ME box in that way?

If a desired shared disk or folder doesn't appear in My Network
Places, click "Add a network place" and follow the prompts.

It can take up to 15 minutes after a computer boots before anything
for that computer appears in My Network Places.

It might help to disable Browse Master on the ME box.

A nit-picking technical note, Scott: since you have ME and XP, your
network uses a workgroup, not a domain. A domain requires a server
operating system. ME and XP are client operating systems.

Hi Steve,

Ok, here is where I am at this point.....

I've got the ME box using an XP network printer (works).
XP can see the ME box via a workgroup entry in Network Neighborhood.
ME can see the XP boxes if I type \\server (the XP boxes don't automatically
show up in Network Neighborhood, but they do show after I type \\server).

Maybe I'm shooting for something I can't have here....

While the ME box does log in via the domain user accounts, can the ME box
itself be added to the XP domain? The box does show up as a domain computer
in my Active Directory. But, on both the ME box and the XP boxes, the ME
box sits in a workgroup, not the XP domain.

I'm sorry, Scott, but I don't understand your setup.

A network consisting of just ME and XP can't be a domain, because
neither of them can act as a domain controller. Is there a server
computer (Windows NT Server, Windows 2000 Server, Windows Server 2003)
on the network?

I don't know anything about Active Directory, and I think that it
requires a server computer.

Perhaps someone who knows more than I do about domains and AD can
help.

Yes Steve, there is a Windows Server 2003 which is my domain controller.

Then, there are XP Pro. clients that are domain members.

And, there is one ME box. My question is, can ME join a domain or just
connect to domain resources?
