Can't browse network over pptp vpn connection

I'm using a laptop connected to the domain wired, can see everything in the
network neighborhood. Once I take the laptop home and connect to the domain
via VPN the network neighborhood will not populate and can't browse the
domain. WHy?

I can still ping everything, can access any box via \\unc but I want to be
able to browse the network.

Wins and AD are in place and working.
