winxp, win98SE, winME and home network

I have 4 desktops for personal use at home: 2 winxp machines, 1 win98SE
machine and 1 winME machine. Each machine connects to the internet via a
wireless router. I am trying to connect them via router to each other.
I ran the network setup wiz from the 1st winxp box and use a floppy to
install the setup information on each of the other boxes.
Right now both winxp machine see each other and can access files on each
other. And the 1st winxp box can see the win98SE box and access files on it.
But the win98SE box and the winME box are not seeing each other or the winxp
boxes.
Also the the 2nd winxp box can only see and access files on the 1st winxp box
I do not logon with a password to any of the machines at start up.
Then here is another question, how do you logon to any of these boxes as the
administrator if you are the only person using the computer. Shouldn't you be
automatically the admin person?

Ben,

By default, the account setup when you load the system should be the admin
account. What edition is the Windows XP - Home or Pro? That will make a
difference about file sharing.

You're problem with seeing each computer in Network Neighborhood is possibly a
firewall issue, and very possibly a browser conflict.

You can run browstat on the WinXP computers, but not on the Win98 or ME
computer. Browstat will tell you if you have a browser conflict. If you
haven't disabled the Browse Master on the Win98 and ME computers, though, you
probably do have a conflict.

Explain please, what does a browser have to do with his problem? Seeing the
files/folders on a home network should require the use of Explorer - not a
browser.

Jerry,

The browser is the subsystem that populates the Network Neighborhood display, ie
gives us the ability to "see" other computers from Windows Explorer. Please
read one or more of these articles:

Don't confuse the browser with the Markup Language rendering program that's
typically used for surfing the Internet.
