XP to WinME - Crossover Network Problems

I Have XP on Main machine which accesses the internet via a USB based
DSL connection. I went through the Network wizard to connect this XP
machine to another PC running WinME via a crossover cable, however
they cannot connect or see each other.

In My Network Connections... my Internet connection is via Local Area
Connection 3.... Though on this under its properties there isn't an
option on the advanced tab to enable the ICS function.

I thought I'd have to link the 2 PC's via my Local Area Connection
(there is one without a number)..however when doing this... I lose my
standard internet connection (which is via my USB).

When I ran the Network Wizard it gave me an extra drive when I look in
My Computer (L: Removable Disk) and it added (Network Bridge) in My
network places. I'm nt that technical so all this competely baffled
me.

I hope I'm making sense here...and sure would really appreciate any
help or advice or an idiots guide to starting afresh...simply trying
to connect XP to ME via Crossover cable with XP being the host PC.

Thanks.

Make sure there's no Network bridge between the NIC and the USB connection.
The bridge option gives your pc the ability to behave a bit like a network
hub so the bridged connections become members of the same network. What you
actually want is for the USB to be on the internet network and the NIC to be
on the lan, so you need to break any bridge between the two.
Re run the wizard. Make sure you follow a path that gives you an option to
use your pc as the ICS server. It should ask you which network card is to be
used for connecting to the internet (unless it works that out automatically)

Maybe xp thought the USB connection was a removeable drive here.

I connect using a USB Broadband setup...which is shown on my network
places as Local area Connection 3. However this does not give me the
option for Internet Connection sharing. If I open the standard Local
area Connection properties and setup the Internet connection sharing
and the ISP stuff in there, then I lose my actual Internet connection
and a page cannot be displayed. Don't know if this info is any use
or important.

I am so confused....
