XP and W98 file access

P

Peter S

I have a small network with 3 computers. 2 with XP and one
with 98.

I cannot access file on the 2 XP computers from the 98 but
the other computers can see the files on the 98 and use
the printer connected to the 98.

I put this down to the fact the the XP computers HD are
NTFS and 98 can only access FAT files.

Is this Assumption correct?

No. Win98 can access network shares stored on NTFS volumes on other
machines. Win98 cannot run on an NTFS volume nor can it access other NTFS
volumes on the local machine.

You don't give us much information about your access problem. What happens
if on the Win98 machine you click Start/Run, \\<IP address of XP Machine> ?

Make sure the user name and password that you use on the 98 machine are in
the Control Panel/ Users & Passwords of the XP machines.

You might have to add netbui protocol onto the XP machines. It doesn't come
as a selection , you have to install it from the XP disk.
