XP and Publisher 98 compatible?

I just installed XP on my computer. Now my files saved in
Publisher 98 won't open. I get a message reading "program
cannot open files from later version of publisher". Does
this mean XP isn't compatible with Publisher 98? I saved
thirty years worth of my mom's diaries on these zips in
Publisher 98 format. Needless to say, I really appreciate
any help you can give me!

I hate to tell you this but I don't think it is, as a
matter of fact it isn't. You can step up to MS Office
2000 and the publisher suite that comes with it will open
those files.
 
Hold on, you may be able to go to Microsoft's office or
Publisher 98 update page and see if they have a patch
that will work with XP. Go to start, windows update and
find the tab that says office updates, check there first.
