XLS password

I have an xls file that is password protected. I no
longer have Office 2000 installed, and can't re-install
it! I have Works 2001, AND an 'off-the-shelf' item
called 'Pro-Office'. I installed the latter when I
couldn't get MS Office to work. Anyway, MS 2000 has the
extension-.XLS; Works 2001-.XLR; Pro Office-.XML. I COULD
open the file, BUT it is password protected AND---THE BOX
THAT REQUESTS THE PASSWORD DOES NOT APPEAR! I assume it
is because the file was saved as xls, which I don't have
anymore.
Is there a workaround for this? I tried saving the file
using another name and it didn't help. All assistance
will be greatly appreciated.

Found the answer from "Brian A" in General Discussion. MS
Office Excel Viewer opened the file right up with the
password!
